This 1850s commercial block was part of the larger redevelopment of Madison's Block 89, adjacent to the Wisconsin State Capitol. The Burrows Block occupied the future site of a three-story underground parking structure. The developer decided to save its two facades, inserting new floor plates behind. In collaboration with lead architect Valerio Dewalt Train, VHA documented the existing historic buildings, redesigned the facade to its original three story massing and created historically accurate storefronts to replace the long-removed originals.
